I asked a mate what his favourite red was and was it blended? His response was - does that mean I had 2 glasses instead of 1 - or more than 1 bottle in a night???

I laughed and agreed - a blended red could mean 2 bottles in 1 night - LOL

Blended red question springs a Bordeaux!!!

Bordeaux - some absolute crackers out there on the market and ace prices.

Lidl and Aldi running away with things on a high street level with easy access to great bottles and all under £20.

Blended meaning to have more than 1 grape variety included and adds an edge to the bottle.

The edge meaning that it's not your typical grape - like a Malbec of Shiraz (could be both!) - its a lot more complex and can be a difficult one sometimes to pair with foods.

I'll always advocate the food and wine choice - unless a genuine swig and nothing else matters except for where the next bottle is coming from (the alter ego to blended !!!).

Bordeaux - blended cab sav / merlot with other grapes (cab franc, Malbec and even the find of 2019 the Chilean Carmanere (capital C for a purpose!!!) grape.

Bordeaux is a region and France do this often where they say the region and not the grape.

Heard once that Burgundy is the colour of the wine they produce - ummmm nope! - they have multiple colours of Burgundy and the region in France (Burgundy) will testify to that - so will I as I travelled through there in 2019👌.

So where we hear that blended ones - think about the types of grapes and what's included. Lots of opportunities to explore some really cool wines that haven't yet made it to your shopping basket - they should and you could be already a fan.

Wolfblass rocked my world many years ago with some amazing blended reds and the red label specifically - mega wines (would be from Oz) and 2 bottles didnt touch the sides - yes that blended approach again (was a thirsty night!!!)

Great prices too and the yellow and white labels equally ace.

Blended reds don't and shouldn't cost the earth!

A house drink with a nice meal and id say £15 and below will tick the box!

I've tagged a fab article from Food and Wine 2017 below.

Great overviews on blended wines.

Number 6 is a Purple Heart Red and is a Bordeaux blended red with a guide price of £8 - available everywhere!

Number 11 is a Tenshen red and is an American dream and is a blended Syrah / Shiraz (same grape - different name!) - price £15 and available in UK.

This is a good guide for the American dream wines and the place for my future expedition to Vinyard hop!!!

Check the article out and comment 🍷👌
